RAB Lighting has introduced the new LROAD fixtures to provide the best LED lights for roadway lighting.
The 78-watt roadway light is a flexible option for all streetlight applications. It can be used to illuminate intersections, campuses and corporate parks. Additionally, it has Type II, Type III and Type IV IES distribution options. It is even compatible with standard roadway arms. Different mounting adapters are included with the LROAD to make installation easy.
LED lighting systems are a big investment. Many municipalities have put funds into retrofitting their roadway lighting because LEDs provide substantial energy savings that can recover the costs of installation in a few years. On top of an 80 percent reduction in energy usage, cities can qualify for energy rebates, which can eliminate the costs of installation completely.
Many cities have even ran pilot programs with LED outdoor commercial lighting to garner the approval of citizens. In those cases, residents and city officials have overwhelming support for new lighting once they see the improved light quality.

Bringing the savings to parking structure lighting
In addition to roadway lighting, low voltage LED lighting from RAB is a top choice for illuminating parking structures.
In Schaumburg, Ill., the Lincoln Property Company's parking garages at the Woodfield Corporate Center were retrofitted with a new commercial lighting system from RAB. The structures included three and five-story garage complexes with 1,950 parking capacity, and they were outfitted with 387 78-watt RAB GLED fixtures.
RAB's products replaced inefficient 150-watt high pressure sodium fixtures to provide more visibility, enhanced safety, and savings on energy and maintenance costs. HPS fixtures have long service times, but they have poor color rendering. At night, it can be difficult to tell a navy blue car apart from a black car if the lighting is insufficient. LEDs provide even, white light that makes it easier for Woodfield employees to locate their vehicles and have a clear view of other people in the parking structure.
With the new commercial lighting fixtures, Lincoln Property Company will see 50 percent energy savings compared to the old fixtures. The combination of the reduction in energy costs and $18,000 in rebates will allow the company to cover the installation in as little as three years.
A booming market
Commercial LED lighting is making all other lighting options obsolete.
According to a report from WinterGreen Research, suppliers carry up to 150 different kinds of LEDs for their customers. Manufacturers have made significant progress with adapting LED technology for use with any application. There are standard A-bulbs, troffers, reflectors, tube lights, LED candlelights and many other options to replace any lighting solution with more efficient commercial lighting.
Pricing for LEDs keeps dropping as more manufacturers are pushing out new products like RAB's LROAD to stay ahead of the competition. In the end, consumers benefit by gaining access to improved lighting technology everyday.
"Frequent product introductions have characterized the LED lighting industry," stated Susan Eustis, leader of the WinterGreen Research team. "There is a highly competitive pricing environment with the current price point of $10 in 2013 per light about to decline to $6 per light. These market characteristics increase the need for continuous innovation."
The price tag was the only barrier to LED retrofits when the technology first hit the market. However, outdoor and indoor LED lighting has overtaken all other lighting solutions now that the prices and energy rebates allow the lights to pay for themselves completely.
