Grocery stores, retail centers to benefit from GE’s new LEDs

As the business world becomes ever more reliant on gains in efficiency to improve their bottom line, GE Lighting released it's latest indoor LED lighting product designed for the food industry, primarily grocery stores.

The World Interior Design Network reported reported GE Lighting's release of the Immersion RH30 LED lighting system designed specifically for open deck cases used by retailers. The commercial lighting system utilizes GE's Visual Comfort Lens, technology that diffuses LED light uniformly while still providing a slim profile. Given their size, each module can be hidden behind the case, allowing more room for product. In the case of grocery stores, GE said the low-heat output of the LEDs stops food packaging from being damaged by lights, such as "pinpricks" and "hotspots," that other lighting systems can cause. 

"GE's latest LED solution for open deck case lighting gives grocers a quick return on investment and vivid, long-lasting visual performance," said Kyle Mooney, global product manager for GE Lighting. "Unlike conventional light sources, LED lamps tend not to 'fail' suddenly. Rather, an LED's efficiency can be measured by lumen maintenance, and GE's LED lighting solutions meet industry standards for lumen ratings and energy efficiency."

Save energy and money
In addition to reducing energy consumption between a range of 75 to 87 percent, the RH30 LED lighting system is expected to reduce maintenance costs and highlight products more effectively. For instance, each fixture is completely adjustable. A desired angle can highlight product prices or each products label. GE's RH30 refrigerated display lighting can replace the T5, T8, and T12 high output linear fluorescent lamps commonly found in such display cases. 

The RH30 is available in 48-inch and 36-inch bulbs, with color temperatures that provide both warm and cool light, including 3​,000L, 3​,500K, 4​,000K and 5​,000K, allowing display specialist to customize their retail lighting experience.

The contained designed also translates to less lighting maintenance. With conventional fluorescent lighting, bulbs make direct contact with product, especially as grocer's move to maximize cooler space. This direct contact can alter a bulbs contact, even knock it from its socket and cause a dark spot. Retailers cannot afford to jeopardize a customer's shopping experience as a result of lighting discrepancies. Not only can fluorescent bulbs be knocked out, but they fail at once. LED lamps last longer, produce brighter, crisper light, and provide a more consistent shopping experience. Depending on local electricity rates, some retailers expect a full payback on their LED upgrade inside of three years.
