Introducing the Daylight Dimming Solutions
The introduction of several daylight solutions can help you reduce electricity consumption during the peak demand periods of the summer months. Peak electrical demand in the summer months often raises your electrical costs more than 50% because your utility rates are based upon your peak utilization. Reducing the power requirements of your business during this time can significantly reduce the rate that determines your overall billing.
Daylight Dimming Ballasts
Automatic daylight dimming, or “daylight harvesting,” uses a light photo sensor to measure the amount of natural illumination in a space and adjust the artificial lighting accordingly are are energy-efficient.

The GE BallastGE has recently introduced two super efficient ballasts that can be incorporated into your daylight harvesting and load shedding strategies. The UltraMax® Bi-Level Switching ballast provides a smarter solution to A/B switching by stepping down the light level to 60% of full output for up to 6 lamps at once. If a full range of dimming is desired, the UltraMax® Load Shedding 0-10v Dimming ballast can be combined with an automatic or manual controller to drop energy usage when it is needed most. Watch this video for a more thorough explanation of how these can save you money. |

The Axis BallastThe Axis Ballast, is also a unique product in that it each ballast comes equipped with very small individual photo cell that automatically controls the light output of the ballast. Having the control integrated into each ballast allows for a simple installation without the need for a separate control. A series of “dip switches” on each ballast allow the user to set the range of dimming that is desired based upon ambient light levels. The combination of daylight dimming with appropriate task lighting can effectively save a great deal of electricity during the highest period of peak demand. |

Daylight and Occupancy ControlsA variety of new intelligent controls work with our dimming and bi-level step dim ballasts to help you manage lighting levels based upon available ambient light and actual occupancy within the space being controlled. Passive Infrared Occupancy Sensors and Photocells are the most common lighting controls used in commercial buildings today. Monterey offers a wide variety of controls from leading manufacturers to maximize energy savings and peak demand charges. |
